You can't work on a construction site in the UK without a CSCS card. It's the first thing the gate guard asks for. Here's everything you need to know about getting the right card in 2026.

How to Get Your Green CSCS Labourer Card

  1. Pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test (£22 at a test centre)
  2. Complete the Level 1 Health & Safety in a Construction Environment course (online or classroom, ~£100)
  3. Apply online at cscs.uk.com (£36 for the card)
  4. Card arrives in 3-5 working days

How to Get Your Blue Skilled Worker Card

  1. Complete NVQ Level 2 in your trade (6-12 months)
  2. Pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment test
  3. Apply for your blue card at cscs.uk.com

Total cost to get working: under £160. Most agencies will help you through the process.
